Teach English with Comics

A teacher's resource

Our Mission

Space Boy Hector_edited.jpg

The team at Speak English with Comics had one primary goal in mind when creating our comics, and that was to encourage student output.  We chose our name, SPEAK English With Comics, for this very reason. As educators, we found it easy to find resources for reading, writing, and grammar, but we felt a gap in the speaking area.

Once we settled on creating a tool specifically for speaking, we went about finding a way to make speaking practice enjoyableOur comics are designed with the objectives of English learning, while maintaining the fun, the visuals, and the storytelling of a traditional comic strip.

Our comics encourage English learners to speak MORE and to speak INDEPENDENTLY.

And the best part? These comic strips can be used for every level!

How to use comics in the classroom

Integrating comics into your language class is incredibly easy because they are so adaptable! Not only are they adaptable to a wide range of levels but also to just about any topic you want to teach.

A few examples:

  • Fluency. Sometimes the goal is simply to get students talking

  • Specific topics. Whether it's clothes, actions, furniture, emotions, animals, and many many more.

  • Grammar.

    • Present continuous. This is the most natural way most students tell the story.

    • Past tense. Another great way that stories can be told

    • Prepositions. Movement, location, time, phrasal verbs—stories are naturally FULL of prepositions!
